Holiday Concert

It’s that time of year again.  Christmas Holiday Concert.  I dread this every year.

I seriously considered just going away for the last week of school.  They don’t do anything anyway. I reconsidered because of cost and I’m very reluctant for the children to miss school (relic of my days in school — perfect attendance was rewarded).  Plus, the children want to participate.  Fine.  I’ll go but I’m only going during the day when it won’t be as crowded.

So … Gormley was talking today about schools that have banned Christmas from schools.  Our school has gone the other way.  We’re having EVERY holiday.  Seriously.  I don’t know what is actually in the program but the displays include holidays from around the world and the entire year.  It just makes me laugh.

I can vouch for Gormley’s assertion that it’s not the immigrants demanding that Christmas be removed from schools.  It’s staff trying to be inclusive.

I surrender for this year but we might just be AWOL next year.
