Who let that blond woman in?
Snapped Shot has a great post about a presidential photo-op with Girl Scouts. (Actually, Brian has lots of great stuff … take a look.)

Wouldn’t you be excited and smiling if you were in the Oval Office? Not this group. What are they talking about? What is so depressing/serious/boring?
And did you notice what Brian calls “the absolute most PBS-ish inclusive Girl Scout troop in the entire country”? It’s like they used a checklist to select one of each “type” of Girl Scout. Black … Asian … wheelchair … blind …
Let me be clear. I don’t have anything against any of the people pictured and I don’t think that any of them ought to be excluded from such a photo. What I do think is that this group is so obviously selected based on minority group status rather than any other criteria.
This actually trumps the first photo of Michelle with Girl Scouts. When Michelle Obama accepted her position of Honorary National President of Girl Scouts, there was a similar photo.

Gosh. I wonder if all of the children were carefully selected for racial representation.
Schools do it. Advertisers do it. And politicians do it.
