Women’s Rights and Islam

October 30, 2009

The next time someone tells you that Islam is wonderful for women and gives them many rights and freedoms and blah blah blah, you can just refer them to this article about the gender gap in 134 countries.

9 of the bottom 10 countries are predominately Islamic.

And there’s this, too.

niqab

It’s not freely chosen if the religion mandates it and the government enforces it.

I’m an Islam women and you dear person, are mistaking Culture with Religion. Usually only in the middle east do they enforces such rule. I am from a part of Asia and the “rules” that are enforced onto these women does not applies from where I am coming from. Here we choose to wear or not wear the niqab or hijab. So basically, the men in middle east are just chauvinist. Well majority. I still believe that Islam is wonderful for Women and it still empowers them, the problem with people who don’t understand Islam is that they just assume and cannot tell clearly between Religion and Culture.

    How does Islam empower women?

By making them worth only half a man?
