Crowder test drives Canadian-style healthcare.

July 14, 2009

This is must see PGTV for all Americans, especially if you think that universal, government funded healthcare is the way to go.

Actually, Crowder’s experiences in Montreal should make people in Saskatchewan feel better since I think we have it a bit better.

Does anyone know why Quebec has private clinics and Saskatchewan doesn’t?

How about you go to different hospitals/clinics in different provinces? I’ve been going to Canadian clinics & hospitals almost every year for the past 30 years, and have never waited more than an hour.. whether its for a cold to get free antibiotics at least once, maybe two or three times a year.. getting free stitches for a cut finger.. getting free stitches for a deep cut in my scalp.. getting a free cast for my broken arm.. I have a family doctor, who i go to for annual check-ups all my life.. and whenever I have an injury or cold, I go to the nearest clinic or emerg.. and I’ve never waited more than an hour.. nor have I ever had to wait extremely so I’m so confused by your 4+ hours.. all canadian cities have hospitals & clinics.. usually they make people with colds and non-severe cases at emerg to wait for more serious cases to go through.. but, what you show in your video is ridiculous.. how about you try different provinces to get a better representation of canada..

Gee Steven I hope you enjoy your 15 minutes of fame from this biased piece of propaganda. Because you won’t get it from your comedy. Let’s be clear, your one experience in a Quebec hospital (probably the worst system in Canada btw) is not the complete picture. Like all things there are good hospitals and there are bad ones. Painting everything with the same brush isn’t objective. I can tell you that for every bad experience, you will find someone with a positive experience. It’s not the perfect system but for the most part it works. This is health care, so the perfect system doesn’t exist because people are individuals and the health care has to be designed to fit everybody. I can say that I’ve waited hours in an emergency room at times (my injuries were not life threatening, but painful – others’ were), I can say that I’ve also gotten to an emergency room and been seen by a doctor in 5 minutes. I’ve also had the experience of having a planned procedure and again I was in surgery within 3 weeks. In regards to not having a family doctor, the Canadian system has walk-in clinics to help ease the burden on emergency rooms and family doctors so that people in need will not go without. It’s all free. Yes it comes out of our taxes, but everyone can use it, we have choices, we don’t have an HMO telling us how to make choices with our health that affects their profits.

Doesn’t anyone wonder why doctors and hospitals in the U.S. spend more on lobbyist than the defence industry? Hmmm… make you wonder. Is it because they care about the American public? Why am I not shocked that it was the Fox Networks that had Mr. Crowder on their show…

Gee, I don’t think Stephen Crowder actually reads this website. Maybe you should go to his blog to direct comments to him.

Where do you live anon? You’ve never waited more than an hour in emergency? I find that very hard to believe.

I waited in emergency for over 3 hours a few years ago and ended up just leaving – hey, I obviously wasn’t dying. My mother does not have a family physician and is on a waiting list to get one, along with over 500 other people. Sounds like Anon is very lucky.
