Happy Independence Day!
July 4, 2009
I love small town America. We went to the Independence Day Parade in Norwalk, Iowa and it was perfect. There were kids and floats and fire engines and Scouts. Husband and wife WWII veterans were the Grand Marshalls. Every branch of the military was represented.

The Norwalk High School marching band played “Yankee Doodle Dandy.” (Every parade needs a marching band which is why parades in Saskatoon always seemed to be lacking something. Are there no marching bands in Canada?)

And you knew the end was near when you saw the horses.

We were worried about rain but the morning was perfect. Thank you Norwalk!

Canada has marching bands. Yours truly did marching in parades from grade 6 to grade 12 in Swift Current. Swift Current used to have bands from several schools in their Canada Day parade. Regina still has the Lions marching band, I think.
Maybe they go through phases.
That’s good to know because Saskatoon doesn’t have any high school or college marching bands.
I don’t count the Lions marching band. It’s a nice try but not quite what I was expecting.
