Fountain of smart.

April 27, 2009

I think that I have always assumed that I probably treat people as if they aren’t as smart as I am.  In fact, a roommate in college accused me of just that but I think she was just projecting her insecurities onto me.  In spite of that incident, I think that the opposite is actually true.

I act as if everyone is intelligent and logical and full of common sense.  Can you guess where this leaves me?  Incredibly frustrated.  Really.  Over and over each day I encounter situations where people are just acting as if they are completely stupid.  Maybe they aren’t but they sure act like it.

I assume that people can follow instructions.  I assume that people can follow rules.  I assume that people will do what they say they will do.  I assume that cashiers can count money and make change.  I assume that drivers can park between lines.  I assume that what is listed on a menu is what I will receive.

Maybe I should just assume that most people are stupid and need not only very specific instructions but also detailed oversight.   Probably too obnoxious and too much work.
