Cancel that Mexican vacation?

April 25, 2009

I would.

Mexico is experiencing an outbreak of swine flu with over 80 deaths.  Public events have been cancelled and schools closed.   The CDC isn’t recommending that people cancel trips to Mexico … yet … but I don’t think I’d want to go.  I’d choose “better safe than sorry” and just cancel.

There have been a lot of families from our school taking trips to Mexico this year.  I wonder if anyone is there now or if anyone has just returned.  Patients shed virus for at least 5 days and children may shed for 10 days or more.

Cases have also been reported in Southern California and in Texas.  No cases have occured in Canada.  Yet.

Maybe people who return from Mexico should quarantine themselves for about a week.  Please?  Pretty please?

I like pigs but I really don’t want swine flu.

Just for fun, can you guess what year the last flu pandemic ocurred?

This is a graph of life expectancy.
