Get the government out of my kitchen!
Stop the insanity!
Kelly Brownell (professor and director of the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity, Yale University) and Dr. Thomas Frieden (health commissioner for the City of New York) co-wrote a “Perspective” in the New England Journal of Medicine. They are recommending high taxes on sugared beverages — “Ounces of Prevention — The Public Policy Case for Taxes on Sugared Beverages“.
I know that sugar is bad. I get that. However, the government needs to stay out of it! Enough with this ever-expanding government interference in our day to day lives! That is not the role of government. Not at all. I don’t need a nanny, thanks.
This is exactly what I don’t like about public health. Public health shouldn’t be focused on sticking their collective noses into the lives of individuals who should be free to eat what they want to eat. What I eat doesn’t affect anyone else therefore it’s not the purview of public health. If I have TB and I’m coughing all day spreading the bacteria to other people, then public health should be involved. If I choose to only drink Kool-Aid all day long, that affects only me. Stay out of it.
When will this craziness end?
