Stop stealing our family time.
“Teachers hold the power to ruin a family evening whenever they so desire.”
Thanks to Murray Wood at Newstalk650 for expressing my thoughts exactly. Last night my daughter had to finish a project which I had assumed was being completed at school. Had I known that the due date was approaching and that she was expected to do the work at home, I would have planned accordingly. I don’t believe that it’s done maliciously but I still find it difficult to not be resentful over the power held by teachers.
Projects should be planned ahead of time with firm due dates communicated to the students and, in the case of the lower grades, the parents. And while we’re on the topic, homework and projects to be completed outside of school should be very limited for young children who need lots of direction. That direction should come from the teacher in school. Homework is of little benefit. It’s a myth that kids need to do homework.
