Hopenchange Guesstimate

January 22, 2009

Why do people have to drastically overestimate the size of attendance at public events?  Do they really think no one will notice?

Have you heard about the 2 million people who were in the huge crowds to witness President Obama’s inauguration?  Heh.  More like 800,000 people. That’s still an impressive turnout given the cold weather and the fact that most people would have had a much better view in their living rooms.  For future reference, if you’re planning a big event which is likely to be photographed, don’t try to fudge the attendance numbers.  Either admit you don’t actually have the slightest clue how many people were in attendance or be a bit more reasonable.  I’m going to assume that the people who made this guesstimate are not working on the budget.  I hope.

Anyone know how the port-a-potty situation worked out?  And can you imagine how the mall would have looked had twice as many people shown up?
