University town = Liberal

November 8, 2008

I went to a lot of effort to vote absentee but it was an uphill battle for McCain in Johnson County, Iowa — home of the University of Iowa.

Obama  50,708

McCain  20,639

See, that’s where the popular vote is actually misunderstood.  Because of the electoral college system, many people choose not to vote because they know that their vote won’t actually make a difference to the final outcome.  I voted because I believe that it is a responsibility to vote and I wanted to be counted in the final tally.  However, I knew that Obama would win Johnson County and that he would most likely win Iowa which he did.

And when the talking heads on tv or radio start talking about the “landslide” victory, I just want to scream.  Obama did win a vast majority of the Electoral College votes but he only won the popular vote by 52.6% to 46.1%.  That’s a decisive victory but not a landslide.  Oh well.  I really ought to be used to the media spin.
