Disgusting.

He was subbing for Cory Kolt this afternoon.  (Where did everyone go this week???)  The topic was the American election which is not surprising.  Kirton doesn’t like President Bush and is very happy about President-elect Obama.  Also, not surprising.  HOWEVER … after playing the tape of the President’s statement this morning congratulating Obama and noting an invitation for Barack and Michelle Obama to visit the White House, Kirton was positively snorting with snide laughter.  He accused the President of speaking through “gritted teeth” and then did a mocking impersonation of him.  It was just disgusting.

I don’t expect impartiality on a talk show.  Hosts are supposed to have an opinion but to be so snarky and nasty?  Earlier in the segment, Kirton predicted “four years of hatred” from Republicans directed towards Democrats and Obama.  Has he been sleeping through the past 8 years of Bush Derangement Syndrome and the hatred from leftists and liberals and Democrats?  What I’ve heard from Republicans and McCain supporters is that Obama will be our President and that they hope he has a successful presidency.  Read Scott Ott’s article “Barack Obama is MY President.” See Karl Rove on FoxNews.  Yes, that’s right, Karl Rove.  And Sean Hannity.  Wishing the best for Obama.  Are people worried?  Yes.  But we’re not hoping for failure.

Did you hear anything like that coming from Democrats during Bush’s presidency?  I sure didn’t.  I saw and heard liberals hoping that Bush would fail.  Reveling in setbacks and denying successes (surge, anyone?).

When George H.W. Bush lost to Clinton, I was a Clinton supporter and I was quite rude to my roommate’s boyfriend who was a Bush supporter.  We had a bet which was enforced with glee and gloating.  In hindsight, I’m embarrassed.   I was only 23 then and still quite immature.  What’s Kirton’s excuse?
