Earlier today, I read about a Fisher Price doll, the Cuddle and Coo doll.  A parent heard the doll say “Islam is the light.” Seriously.

I thought that she must have just misheard the doll or might even be making the whole thing up so I went to see for myself.

It’s true.  It certainly sounds like the doll says “Islam is the light.”  I was still skeptical but crazybengal has heard it as well.  The doll mostly just babbles or says ‘mama’ so a sing songy phrase is unusual and I can’t think of anything else that the doll might be saying.  It certainly seems that the statement “Islam is the light” was intentionally installed on the dolls.  By whom, I can’t even begin to guess.   The dolls were made in China.  There are Chinese Muslims.

So far, nothing on the Fisher Price website.  Some stores are pulling the doll after customer complaints but others are just offering refunds.

By the way, if you watch the original news report about the doll, this is not about hate and the doll doesn’t say anything that sounds like “Satan is king.”  Exaggerating the problem doesn’t help.  The issue is that the doll is promoting a religion.   No thanks.
