Pop Propaganda
My daughters love Miley Cyrus. We have two copies of her new CD. Yippee!
I’ve watched the Hannah Montana show and it’s entertaining. I don’t mind having my daughters listen to Miley and sing her songs. Way better than the Pussycat Dolls. Most of her songs are pretty innocuous pop. Some of the songs are actually quite good. However … who decided that the song “Wake Up America” should be recorded? What a load of propaganda. Someone must have said “Hey … green stuff is selling. You should have a song about global warming!” Unfortunately, they didn’t bother to do any research. My daughters think that if Miley is singing about it, it must be important. Lucky for them that I can set the record straight.
Oh, The Earth is calling out
I wanna learn what it’s all about but
Everything I read’s
Global warming, going green
I don’t know what all this means
But it seems to be saying
Wake up America
Great. Everybody’s talking about global warming and, even though she doesn’t have the slightest clue what it actually means, she’ll put her stamp of approval on it and promote doing something. She even offers concrete examples in an episode of her web show “The Miley and Mandy Show” which basically amount to reduce, reuse, recycle.
Here’s what I teach my children:
There is no global warming. Climate change is always happening because we live in a dynamic ecosystem. Human activities do not change the Earth’s “temperature.” Pop stars aren’t reliable sources of science information. Or political information.
