Where’s Steve?

September 6, 2008

For some strange reason, I was thinking about Blue’s Clues when I was in the shower this morning.  I used to love watching Blue’s Clues with my little girl.  I enjoyed Steve – he had a calming effect on both of us.  I loved little Paprika, Periwinkle and Magenta.  I have good memories of the two of us snuggled on the couch looking for the pawprints and singing the mailbox song.  “We are looking for Blue’s Clues…”  And then, horrors, Steve decided to leave the show.  He was replaced by Joe.  I really didn’t watch Blue’s Clues much after Joe came along.  I thought it was because daughter #1 had out-grown the show and daughter # 2 was just not that into Blue.  However, I realized, as I was conditioning my hair, that it wasn’t the children that lost interest in Blue…it was me.

You see.  I wasn’t the only 30-something mom that watched Blue’s Clues with their children.  It would appear that many, many women and teenage girls, watched Blue’s Clues.  The show also had a gay following.  Really.  Google it.  The attraction?  Steve.  Who knew?  I didn’t.  But I must admit that I could see the attraction.  Why did I, and many many women, stop watching Blue’s Clues after Steve left?  ‘Cause Joe was jailbait.

So true. I also stopped watching Blues Clues when Joe got the job. He just didn’t seem as into the show the way Steve did. Joe seemed kinda sloppy, but Steve, even if he looked like he was working with a hangover sometimes, still gave the camera as much pep as he could muster.
