Did anyone from Lord & Taylor actually visit a Zellers?

July 16, 2008

So, the company that owns Lord & Taylor has purchased the Hudson’s Bay Company.

Lord & Taylor is upscale. HBC is not. Definitely not Zellers. They claim that they will be “upgrading the offerings at both The Bay and Zellers and by bringing Lord & Taylor Fortunoff and CDS into the mix” although I just don’t know how they can do it short of a complete overhaul. Seriously. Shopping at Zellers is like visiting an overpriced garage sale. The toy section is just aisle after aisle of disorganized toys and even the clearance items seem to cost entirely too much.

Every once in a while I go to Zellers because it’s convenient and then I swear to never go there again. Zellers’ customer service is horrible. There is always one woman wandering around pushing the HBC Credit Card but there are never enough cashiers.

Home Outfitters isn’t much better. I think it’s intended to be an upscale home store but, again, it feels like a disorganized garage sale. Safety ladders are next to vacuums. Clearance items in broken boxes cram tables down the main aisle. I have to wander around to find anything and then, of course, I’m asked if I want to get an HBC Credit Card.

Why can’t Target just come to Canada? Please?

But canadians don’t…at least not like the Americans. I suspect that the Lord and Taylor version of Zellers will be just like….Zellers.

Zellers is not my favorite store – only go there when I have to. But I have to say that the new Zellers stores are very nice – organized and extra clean. Too bad there aren’t many of those around. (And staff seems to be nicer and more of them around).

We have a “new” Zellers store in Saskatoon. I believe that the better organization lasted less than six months. And the very first item I purchased there scanned at the wrong price. Of course, the cashier couldn’t fix it and I had to trek across the store to customer “service.” I don’t think I can remember a trip to Zellers that was completely hassle-free. Ever.

I know people who work at zellers and they don’t like it much at all, but they are cashiers and have to push the creditcard, even if the customer says no, they have to find a way around it, somehow they have to force customers to sign up. and if they dont get there daily goal of sign-ups they get in shit, they get told they arent doing there job properly, i really feel for them, but what can they do, its there job
