Google apologizes for “offensive search results”?

July 1, 2008

Open another tab (wouldn’t want you to lose our site!) and Google “jew.”

See the warning at the top? I first saw it when I googled “ultimate Jew” to find Jackie Mason’s site. What’s even more interesting is that it disappeared when I googled again but reappeared after I cleared cookies. So, Google only warns you once. What’s the warning all about? Their search algorithm ranks anti-semitic sites rather high when you search “jew” and Google was contacted by the Anti-Defamation League. I’ve never seen this warning before but it’s been up for at least 3 years. I wonder there are similar warnings for any other word(s).

So, Google says “sorry … not our fault … can’t do anything.”

Wonder if they could do anything about map of Israel on Google Earth which has been annotated (incorrectly) by pro-Palestinian activists.
