Election Spectator — I’ll be voting but I’m not happy with the choices.
This US presidential election campaign is interesting for the apparent divisions on both sides.
Democrats are still split even though the candidates have “kissed and made up” as it were. Hillary and Obama are making nice but there are significant Hillary supporters who will not vote for Obama. Obama supporters have been busy blocking anti-Obama websites which isn’t going to make many friends.
Many Republicans do not agree with McCain on key issues. The Republican Party seems to have the candidate who was the least offensive to most people and the most attractive to independent voters as well as moderate Republicans. The Republican base wanted one of the other candidates. The problem was that they couldn’t agree on which of the other candidates. Maybe there were just too many candidates for too long? Maybe if Huckabee had dropped out earlier, more voters would have swung to Romney? Or vice versa?
Here in Canada, a similar thing happened with the last leadership race in the Liberal Party of Canada and now they’re stuck with Stephane Dion (just take your pick from the Small Dead Animals links). See how that worked out?
The good news is that McCain is infinitely better than Dion.
So, I’m voting for McCain but I’d still prefer someone else. Someone like Fred Thompson.

“So, I’m voting for McCain but I’d still prefer someone else. Someone like Fred Thompson.”
Amen and amen.
I agree, I will most likely still vote for McCain. I am not happy at all with the choices. I think it will all come down to who is chosen for the VP slot.
Yes, I think the VP selection could make a huge difference for undecided voters. Especially for McCain given his age.
I wonder if Obama will pick someone with experience or another relative unknown so he won’t have to give up any of the spotlight.
