Flooding

June 14, 2008

Major roads in Des Moines are closed. All of the downtown bridges are closed. Areas of town are being evacuated. At least people are more prepared this time since they know what happened in 1993. Water Works seems to be safe at this point. I’m thankful that my family is on high ground.

The University of Iowa is closed. Seriously. Only essential services are running including, obviously, UIHC (the hospital). I’ve never heard of that happening before.

Cedar Rapids is expected to have floods cresting at levels 50% higher than 1993!

This flood is worse than 1993 and I missed that one as well. Lucky except that I’d like to be able to help. Can’t do anything here except make sure that we’re prepared for any disasters.
