The fundamental problem with fundamentalists.

May 26, 2008

So, I finally read the article that crazybengal linked to the other day about polygamy among some Muslims in Toronto (I’m a little slow … I found the article via LGF).

For me, the quote that really stood out was from the imam who performed the second (and third?) marriage ceremonies. Aly Hindy said “This is in our religion and nobody can force us to do anything against our religion,” he said. “If the laws of the country conflict with Islamic law, if one goes against the other, then I am going to follow Islamic law, simple as that.” (emphasis is mine.)

And that’s the problem. If Islamic law conflicts with Canadian law, he must follow Canadian law. If he wants to follow Islamic law, he should move to Iran. And he can take the polygamists with him.

Overrun by christians? really? And what evil things are they doing? Bombing? Cutting off hands? Beheading? The US and Canada are 2 of the best countries in the world to live in. They are essentially secular and it is only a few chicken shit politicians, trying to win the immigrant vote, that are going to be responsible to for letting the immoral laws of 7th century religions influence our ability to uphold the
laws of democratic society. Hope for the US – the US does not need hope – it IS hope.
