I can’t believe that I need to correct the questions in a grammar quiz!
May 25, 2008
Robert Stevenson has a blog subtitled “Where laughter, fun, and grammar intersect.” He kindly provides “Rob’s grammar quiz” to test your knowledge. Wouldn’t you assume that a grammar quiz would be free of spelling and/or grammatical errors? You’d be wrong.
Q2. The goup group of girls (is or are) coming over for dinner.
Q4. There are (a lot or alot) of exception exceptions to the rule rules in English grammar.
Can I get bonus points on the quiz?

Good for you, you caught my error.
Odd that you had the time to catch my error when you didn’t catch your own in your “Memorial Day” post form the same day.
You wrote, “When approach the Vietnam Memorial, most people start from the left.” You probably meant “approaching.” And your last sentence: “A woman hugged me and then I moved on but I haven’t forgotten,” is a run-on sentence. It needs a comma before the coordinating conjunction “and”.
I’m now laughing at myself. I caught two errors in my reply to you: a dash should be where the first comma is (after “Good for you”). I also transposed the o and the r in the word “from” in the second sentence. I considered running your post of my errors on my blog followed by your post with your grammar errors under the title “Nobody’s Perfect,” but I will receive no satisfactio in trying to embarrass you.
Post away. It wouldn’t embarrass me since my post wasn’t labeled as a test of other people’s grammar knowledge.
Thanks for pointing out the mistakes. I will fix them now. I do find writing a blog a bit of a challenge grammatically since I tend to use a “speaking voice” when writing. I usually catch errors upon re-reading my posts and finding that they don’t “sound” correct.
You two crack me up – get a room. You might find some satisfactio
Somehow i missed the point. Probably lost in translation
Anyway … nice blog to visit.
cheers, Puissant
