Who do you trust? Dietitians Sell Out

May 6, 2008

I’ve always been suspicious of dietitians. From personal experience, most of them are naturally skinny women who think that if only the fat people would eat carrot sticks instead of potato chips we could all be like them. I remember one advising pregnant women “if I’m craving chocolate, I just have a cup of sugar-free cocoa.” When I was craving chocolate, I had a Snickers.

Anyhoo … Dr. Freedhoff at Weighty Matters has some interesting information about the Dietitians of Canada. Here’s a quote from their 2001 National Nutrition Month Resource Manual for Dietitians:

With the exception of dental caries, there is no evidence to show that sugar causes health problems. There is no specific limit or recommendation to reduce the amount of sugar we are currently eating.
