If you have kids, get a landline.

I’ve started warning my brother about this since they only have cell phones.
A child in Calgary died after his Aunt used a VoIP phone line to call 911. The ambulance was sent to the Toronto address on file which was an old address.
Moral of the story — if you have children, make sure you have at least one old-fashioned phone plugged into a land line. Using that phone in emergencies tells the operator your exact location. Even if the power is out, that phone will work when a cordless won’t.

I also have a friend that went to cell only. A tractor carrying her husband and son rolled and she could not get a signal out for 911. Husband died, son is in critical condition. Tragic that his life could have been saved, if not trying to save a couple of dollars.
