No, not ALL Canadian television shows suck, just most of them. Of course it’s all a matter of taste, but I find Corner Gas to be unwatchable. It’s so stale and dry, it’s like a digital crouton.
It doesn’t help that practically every Canadian “comedy” series has the same plot and same actors. “Hiccups” stars all the same actors as “Corner Gas,” and they all do the same song and dance they do on every show; White rural morons hamming it up for a desperate and futile attempt at humour.
This is not to say that Canada hasn’t had some great shows, but those days are long gone. The Kids In The Hall was one of the greatest sketch comedy shows to ever air on tv’s anywhere in the world. But that was back in the day, when our stations weren’t afraid to take chances on biting, risque humour. Nowadays we seem to be inundated with a barage of cookie-cutter shows that are all completely interchangable with one another. Even our sketch-comedy series are awful. Comedy Now makes Mad Tv look brilliant.
Anyway, I digress. At least we still have The Fifth Estate and W5. Those are good. But that’s it.
So what other examples do you have besides corner gas and trailer park boys??
That is the only examples you Canadians come with and only the latter was truly good.
Watch CBC for two hours. Any two hours. Then, watch FOX for two hours. Any two hours.
You tell me which was better.
Canadian TV is horrible. We try too hard. That’s not to say that Canada should just give up on the TV/movie industry, but it’s all very forced, and very obvious.
